Hello all! after the baked msf-like thing the last time, i was messing around again and i made something else =) Using a mish mash of MAC pigments and other makeup ingredients.

This time, whilst I was tinkering around, I took pix so I can do a sort of mini tutorial for you all! =)

Ookie so I have had these two gorgeous little paper box type cases containing a face powder. This is basically the case for the trial size clinique transparency blended face powder. I got it off ebay cos the case was cute, then realized I would never use this as a face powder with a puff per se cos I am already addicted to my chacott powder.

SOOO i thought I would try to make my own version of the Guerlain meteorites since I already have the cutest perfect little box to store them in! hehheh.

Here's what they look like up close. For this version i've used the following products:

MAC Vanilla pigment
MAC Fairylite pigment
MAC Naked pigment
MAC Pink Opal pigment
MAC Golden Bronze Iridescent loose powder
Stila Sun Highlighter no 1 crushed
Clinique blended face powder in transparency
EDM Lucent soft touch blush sample
EDM Frost Bitten eyeshadow
Simply Naturals Honey eyeshadow

As you can see, all these products are meant to be used for highlighting. I wanted to create a blend which would look a little like lightscapade msf, but with a slightly warmer tint (thus i added the golden bronze and sun highlighter but small amounts only) as well as a touch of glitter (thus i added the simply naturals e/s cos it has the most gorgeous microglitter) plus something that is slightly mattifying to tone down the overall effect (thus the addition of the face powder)

Here's the closeup result =)

So here's the mini tute. Again, my apologies for lack of video but i tried my best with the pics =)

Equipment you'll need:

From left to right:
1. Dimethicone as a binder. If you dont have this any face primer containing dimethicone will suffice but i find using the pure form to be the easiest.
2. Syringe filled with alcohol. I find using a syringe to dispense drops of alcohol is the best and neatest method
3. A good spatula. I am using a stainless steel dentist's spatula. This baby rocks. it does everything from depotting to mixing pigments perfectly and neatly =)
4. The clinique transparency face powder mini. Basically it's loose powder trapped under a plastic film and comes with a weeny cute puff.
5. A little saucer you can use to mix the pigments in. Forgot to include it here but you'll see my saucer below. it's a nice glass saucer i bought just to mix pigments in =)

First: using a sharp penknife i cut out the plastic film, making sure to cut as close to the side as possible, before emptying out the powder.

Next, using my glass saucer, I mix about 15 drops of alcohol with 3 drops of the dimethicone. This amount is very approximated, but try not to use too much dimethicone or else the pigment will feel "oily". I then proceed to add the pigment in increasing amounts, mixing each time until i get a nice consistency. Basically it should be like a stiff paste texture. Kind of like Royal Icing that has been sitting out for awhile.

I dont have pictures for the subsequent steps cos that's when i got my hands dirty!!! But i'll describe the best i can!

Once you've got the pigment paste, use your spatula to scrape it all up into a ball. Then, scoop it out and onto your palm. Using your fingertip, gently GENTLY roll the ball around on your palm till it looks nice and smooth. To prevent pigment from sticking all over your palm, you can dust it first with a little face powder.

It is crucial to get the correct consistency when mixing in the jar. Too wet and you'll be unable to roll it into a ball. Too dry and the ball will CRACK.

once you've got a neat little ball, carefully drop it onto a piece of cloth so that the cloth can absorb excess alcohol.

Repeat the process for all the different pigments you've selected to be in the mix. Some pigments mix up softer, some firmer. THus as you can see, different sized and shaped balls in my closeup pic. Somehow, MAC pigments are harder to mix into balls cos they are very soft and finely milled. Powdery pigments such as fairylite and naked mixed up MUCH better than the more metallic pigments like vanilla and pink opal. Mineral eyeshadows and blushes mix up very well from my experience.

Once you've got a suitable number of balls, you can then proceed to set them by either sticking them in a toaster for abit, or using a hairdryer on high to blow at them on and off for about 5 mins. Basically HEAT works. (if you are using a toaster, pls dont put the cloth in, it might catch fire! A piece of aluminium foil will suffice)

leave them overnight in a dry place. and taadaa, your very own highlight "meteorites". Best part is you have TOTAL control over which colours go in. you can even mix colours together in a little ball =)

**caution. this is a VERY MESSY project**

=D

yeap that's all folks! hope you liked it =) Will post a tute on the msf baking as soon as I can find an empty compact to use in the photographs!!!!
